Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's qrtr network subsystem. A race condition exists in the qrtr_port_remove() function where the socket reference count is decremented prematurely. This allows a concurrent reader to access a socket whose reference count has dropped to zero, potentially leading to a Use-After-Free (UAF) vulnerability. An attacker could exploit this to cause memory corruption, leading to system instability or a denial of service.
Statement
Red Hat has evaluated this vulnerability as having a Moderate severity impact because exploitation requires local access and precise timing to trigger a race condition during Qualcomm IPC Router (QRTR) socket teardown. Although a successful exploit may lead to kernel memory corruption or system instability, the vulnerable QRTR protocol is specific to Qualcomm inter-processor communication and is typically not active in standard enterprise server environments. Furthermore, unprivileged users do not interact with this subsystem under typical deployment configurations.
