Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A race condition exists in the ice network driver's TX timestamp ring cleanup, specifically between the ice_free_tx_tstamp_ring() and ice_tx_map() functions. This vulnerability could allow a local attacker to trigger a null pointer dereference, leading to a system crash and a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because exploitation is confined to a local denial of service via a kernel crash, without exposing confidential data or permitting arbitrary code execution. The flaw specifically affects environments utilizing Intel E800 series network interface hardware managed by the ice driver. Triggering the race condition requires local access and precise concurrency during packet transmission and queue teardown operations. Systems lacking this hardware or running kernels without this driver loaded are unaffected.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
