Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) timer component. A race condition can occur during the release of a timer object, specifically when the SNDRV_TIMER_IOCTL_PARAMS ioctl is called concurrently. This can lead to a use-after-free vulnerability, potentially allowing a local attacker to achieve arbitrary code execution or cause a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because it requires local access and precise timing during concurrent operations, preventing remote exploitation. In standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux server deployments, audio subsystem interfaces are rarely utilized by server workloads, which significantly restricts real-world exposure. Local authenticated users could potentially leverage this race condition to induce a system crash or escalate privileges, but the necessity of specific ioctl timing reduces overall exploit reliability.
