Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Distributed Switch Architecture (DSA) subsystem. Redundant locking operations within the DSA conduit ethtool wrappers can lead to a deadlock. A local attacker can exploit this by using the ethtool -i command, causing the system to become unresponsive and resulting in a denial of service.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having a Moderate impact because exploitation is constrained to local users with access to network devices configured with Distributed Switch Architecture (DSA), and it causes a system hang without compromising confidentiality or integrity. Successful triggers depend on specific hardware or virtualized network switch configurations that are uncommon in standard enterprise deployments. Furthermore, supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases do not include the upstream code changes that introduced this issue.
