Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) System on Chip (ASoC) Renesas Sound (rsnd) component. An incorrect boundary check during the population of the component_dais array can lead to an out-of-bounds memory access. This vulnerability occurs because a loop relies on an array element being zero, which is not guaranteed, potentially causing system instability or unexpected behavior.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Moderate impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires local access on systems equipped with specialized Renesas hardware, restricting the blast radius primarily to a kernel denial of service. The affected Renesas Sound (rsnd) ALSA SoC driver is designed for specific embedded architectures and is not active on typical standard deployments. Consequently, general enterprise server environments without this hardware are unaffected during routine operations.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
