Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's accel/qaic driver. This vulnerability allows for memory to be mapped beyond its intended boundaries during certain memory allocation operations. A local attacker could exploit this flaw, leading to a use-after-free condition. This could potentially result in privilege escalation or a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as an Important impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because an authenticated local user with access to the accelerator device node could trigger a use-after-free condition to escalate privileges or crash the host. The flaw is confined to the qaic device driver supporting Qualcomm Cloud AI 100 PCIe acceleration hardware. Installations lacking this specialized hardware or where the driver module is uninitialized and inaccessible are not exposed to this risk.
