Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's FUSE (Filesystem in Userspace) component. The fuse_ref_folio() function does not properly re-lock a request after unlocking it, which can lead to a use-after-free vulnerability. A local attacker could exploit this flaw to potentially execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because exploitation requires local system access and winning a race condition during concurrent FUSE request handling. While FUSE support is available in default Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, an attacker must possess local execution privileges to interact with user-space file systems and induce the race. Successful exploitation could lead to a kernel crash resulting in a denial of service or potentially permit local privilege escalation.
