Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's intel-hid driver. A race condition can occur in the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) notify handler when processing tablet-mode events on convertible or detachable devices. If two events are processed concurrently, the input device may be registered twice, leading to a NULL pointer dereference. This can result in system instability or a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because triggering the flaw requires specific physical convertible or detachable hardware equipped with Intel switch mechanisms, with the resulting impact limited strictly to a local denial of service. Standard enterprise server deployments, cloud instances, and virtual machines do not handle these ACPI switch notifications and remain unaffected. Additionally, the race condition cannot be exploited remotely and does not lead to privilege escalation or compromise data integrity or confidentiality.
