Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Industrial I/O (iio) core debugfs component. When the *ppos value is non-zero during a call to simple_write_to_buffer(), the start of the buffer (buf[]) may not be properly initialized. This uninitialized data can lead to unpredictable behavior or potential information disclosure.
Statement
Red Hat rates this flaw as Low impact because exploitation requires local access to debugfs entries for the Industrial I/O subsystem, which are restricted to administrative users by default. In standard production deployments, debugfs access is not permitted for unprivileged accounts, significantly reducing practical exposure. Furthermore, the vulnerable code introduced in recent upstream kernels is not present in supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels.
