Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's exec subsystem, specifically within the transfer_args_to_stack() function. A local user could provide a specially crafted argument or environment string during process creation, causing an unsigned loop counter to wrap. This leads to an out-of-bounds read and memory corruption, which can result in a kernel panic and a system crash, effectively causing a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This issue affects the execve argument transfer path. When bprm->p is below PAGE_SIZE, the unsigned loop counter never terminates. A local user providing crafted exec arguments could hang the kernel.
