Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Transparent Inter-Process Communication (TIPC) module. A vulnerability in the __tipc_nl_compat_dumpit function can lead to an infinite loop if a callback returns a negative error code. This prevents the release of a critical system lock, causing other processes to become unresponsive and resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) condition.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having a Low impact because the Transparent Inter-Process Communication (TIPC) kernel module is not loaded by default in standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux installations. An attacker requires local access on a system where TIPC has been explicitly enabled to trigger the loop condition and induce a denial of service. Consequently, typical environments that do not configure or utilize TIPC networking remain unaffected.
