Description
A flaw was found in the Bluetooth Host Controller Interface (HCI) Qualcomm Atheros (QCA) driver within the Linux kernel. This vulnerability occurs when the controller reports an invalid (zero) memory dump size, leading to improper state cleanup. An attacker could potentially exploit this to cause memory corruption by operating on freed memory, or trigger a denial of service by blocking Bluetooth operations.
Statement
Red Hat has evaluated this issue as having a Moderate severity because exploitation requires local access, specialized Qualcomm Bluetooth hardware, and an abnormal diagnostic failure from the controller. On typical Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments, Bluetooth services are not active by default, and the specific controller dump sequence is only invoked during anomalous hardware states. Furthermore, the vulnerable code path introduced in newer upstream kernels is not present in standard supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux distributions. Consequently, the operational risk and potential for arbitrary code execution in production enterprise environments remain limited.
