Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's wifi: cfg80211 component. A local attacker could trigger a system deadlock by performing specific concurrent operations related to wireless interface management. This race condition occurs when a wireless interface is being torn down while a related network session is simultaneously closed, causing the system to become unresponsive. This can lead to a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because exploitation requires local access on a host actively utilizing wireless networking, which significantly limits exposure in standard deployments. Most enterprise installations of Red Hat Enterprise Linux run on server hardware without physical Wi-Fi interfaces or active wireless subsystems. Even where wireless hardware is present, an attacker can only induce an unrecoverable system hang through a timing-dependent race condition, with no loss of data confidentiality or system integrity.
