Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's s390/zcrypt component. This vulnerability arises from insufficient validation of the length of CCA AES cipher key requests. A local attacker could exploit this by providing a specially crafted key token, which may lead to a buffer overflow. This could result in a denial of service, making the system unavailable.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because exploitation requires local authenticated access and is strictly limited to IBM Z (s390x) systems utilizing Common Cryptographic Architecture coprocessors. Deployments on other CPU architectures do not build or load this driver and are not affected. In affected s390x environments where cryptographic coprocessor features are enabled, a local user supplying a malformed key token could trigger kernel memory corruption leading to a system denial of service.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
