Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's device mapper logging (dm-log) component. On 32-bit systems, an error in calculating the bitset_size can cause this variable to wrap around to zero. This incorrect calculation leads to a failure in memory allocation, which can result in a Denial of Service (DoS) condition.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because triggering the condition requires local privileges to configure device-mapper targets and is limited to 32-bit platforms, where memory allocation failures cause a denial of service without compromising data confidentiality or system integrity. Enterprise deployments of Red Hat Enterprise Linux predominantly operate on 64-bit hardware architectures, where the integer rollover during bitset size computation does not occur. Furthermore, access to device-mapper control interfaces is restricted to administrative users by default, preventing unprivileged local accounts from inducing this failure.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
