Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ntfs3 driver. A local attacker can exploit this vulnerability by mounting a specially crafted NTFS filesystem image. This can lead to an integer underflow during a memory copy operation, resulting in an out-of-bounds kernel write. Successful exploitation causes a kernel panic, leading to a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated with a Moderate impact because triggering the condition requires local privileges or physical access to mount a maliciously crafted file system, limiting potential harm to a denial of service. The affected ntfs3 driver is not compiled or shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels. Consequently, Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases are not affected by this flaw.
