Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. In 64-bit configurations, when the prom_printf() firmware entry point is called from a kernel thread other than the initial one, the stack pointer can be incorrectly manipulated by 32-bit firmware code. This incorrect handling of the stack can lead to the kernel hanging, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
Red Hat rates this flaw as having a Moderate severity because it leads to a denial of service through an early boot kernel hang, requiring execution in specific 64-bit legacy hardware environments. Red Hat Enterprise Linux does not support or ship kernels for the MIPS architecture, meaning the vulnerable platform code is not compiled or present in supported products. Consequently, Red Hat environments are not affected by this vulnerability.
