Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel, specifically within the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) for the s390 architecture. An unlikely race condition exists in the try_get_locked_pte() function. This issue could occur if page table entries are unmapped during specific memory management operations. The exact impact of this race condition is not specified, but it represents a stability concern within the kernel's memory handling.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because triggering the race condition requires local access on IBM Z (s390x) architectures and is limited to system availability disruption rather than data compromise. Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases do not include the newer upstream kernel code where this condition was introduced. Therefore, supported Red Hat environments running KVM are not affected.
