Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) component, specifically within the LoongArch architecture. The kvm_vcpu_ioctl_interrupt() function, which can be invoked from userspace, lacks proper validation of interrupt requests. This missing validity check could allow a local attacker to trigger an invalid interrupt, potentially leading to a denial of service.
Statement
A moderate severity flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) support for the LoongArch architecture. The kvm_vcpu_ioctl_interrupt() function, which can be invoked from userspace, did not validate the interrupt request passed to it, allowing a local attacker with access to a KVM virtual CPU to trigger an invalid interrupt and potentially cause a denial of service. Red Hat rated this flaw Moderate (CVSS 3.1 score 5.5, CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) because the impact is limited to availability, with no confidentiality or integrity impact; this differs from the upstream CVEORG rating of Important (8.8), which assumes a changed scope with high confidentiality and integrity impact. Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat In-Vehicle OS are not affected by this flaw because the vulnerable LoongArch KVM code is not present in the kernels shipped for these products.
