Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's AMD XDNA accelerator driver. A local attacker could trigger a deadlock condition during power management resume operations. This occurs when a hardware context synchronization function attempts to acquire a lock that is already held, leading to a system freeze. This vulnerability could result in a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected system.
Statement
A moderate-impact denial-of-service flaw was found in the Linux kernel AMD XDNA accelerator driver (accel/amdxdna). A local attacker able to trigger AMD XDNA hardware context operations on a system where the device is suspended could cause a deadlock: amdxdna_hwctx_sync_debug_bo() invokes a hardware callback while holding xdna->dev_lock, and that callback path may synchronously execute amdxdna_pm_resume(), which also acquires xdna->dev_lock, resulting in a system freeze. The flaw affects only availability; there is no impact to confidentiality or integrity (Red Hat CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H, severity moderate). All Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat In-Vehicle OS kernel streams (kernel, kernel-rt, and kernel-ivos-qualcomm) listed on this flaw are marked NOTAFFECTED because the vulnerable code is not present in the shipped kernels, so no Red Hat products are affected by this issue.
