Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's nvec driver. An incomplete receive (RX) transfer in the nvec_rx_completed() function can lead to a use-after-free vulnerability. This occurs because memory is freed and then immediately accessed, allowing a concurrent memory allocation to overwrite the freed data. An attacker could potentially exploit this to cause memory corruption, leading to a denial of service or possibly privilege escalation.
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated as Moderate severity rather than Important because exploitation is strictly limited to local interfaces on specialized Tegra embedded controller hardware, preventing remote reachability. Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels do not enable or include this staging driver in supported configurations, leaving standard installations unaffected. Consequently, typical enterprise environments face no operational risk from this flaw.
