Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's cxl/region module. Multiple race conditions exist during the deletion of CXL (Compute Express Link) regions. A local attacker could exploit these race conditions by repeatedly attempting to delete a region via the sysfs interface or by racing with kernel operations. This could lead to a denial of service (DoS) by preventing proper resource cleanup and potentially causing system instability.
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated with a Moderate severity impact because exploitation is constrained to local users with access to sysfs device teardown interfaces on systems equipped with Compute Express Link (CXL) technology. Systems without physical CXL hardware or emulated CXL devices are not exposed to this issue during normal operation. Furthermore, the consequence is limited to kernel resource mismanagement causing a system crash, without compromising data confidentiality or system integrity.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
