Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's device mapper (dm) component. When io_uring with IOPOLL is used on a dm-stripe target, a task can enter a prolonged spinning poll loop. This can lead to an RCU (Read-Copy Update) CPU stall, causing a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected system.
Statement
Red Hat has evaluated this issue as having a Moderate severity impact because exploitation requires local access and a specialized configuration combining polled asynchronous operations with striped device-mapper volumes. Under these conditions, an authenticated local user can induce prolonged CPU spinning that results in a kernel hang or system denial of service. The vulnerability does not allow privilege escalation or compromise of data integrity and confidentiality, limiting the overall impact to operational availability.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
