Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's fsverity subsystem. A local attacker could exploit a race condition in the bpf_get_fsverity_digest() function by concurrently modifying its digest_size argument. This could lead to a system crash, resulting in a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Moderate impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires local access with privileges to load and execute BPF programs, and the blast radius is confined to a denial of service via a system crash rather than arbitrary code execution or data exposure. Under default Red Hat configurations, unprivileged user access to the BPF subsystem is restricted, significantly limiting attack vectors from unprivileged accounts. Triggering this race condition requires concurrent modification of dynamic pointer arguments during file digest retrieval, a scenario unlikely to occur during normal operational workloads.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
