Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's damon_lru_sort module. A local user with write permissions to module parameters can trigger a division-by-zero error by setting the active_mem_bp parameter to a specific value. This manipulation causes the damos_quota_score() function to attempt division by zero, leading to a system crash and a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated as having Moderate impact because triggering the condition requires local administrative privileges to write to sysfs module parameters, limiting exploitation to a local denial of service rather than privilege escalation. Furthermore, supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases do not include the vulnerable DAMON LRU sorting logic introduced in newer upstream kernels, leaving default enterprise installations unaffected.
CVSS score applicability
