Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's rtl8723bs Wi-Fi driver. A remote attacker could send specially crafted Wi-Fi management frames containing a short vendor-specific information element. This could lead to an out-of-bounds read, where the system attempts to access memory beyond its allocated buffer. Such an issue can result in information disclosure or a denial of service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because an out-of-bounds memory read within the wireless driver primarily causes a kernel crash or limited information exposure rather than arbitrary code execution. Supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux releases are not affected because the staging rtl8723bs driver is not compiled or shipped in Red Hat enterprise kernels.
