Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's XFS filesystem. When a local user or process attempts to delete a directory that refers to itself, the directory tree repair code incorrectly tries to acquire a lock on the same inode twice. This double-locking issue can lead to system instability or unexpected behavior, potentially resulting in a denial of service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated with a Low severity for Red Hat because exploiting it requires local privileges, specialized metadata conditions, and only impacts system availability. Additionally, the online directory repair subsystem where this lock recursion occurs is not present in supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels. As a result, typical enterprise workloads running on default installations remain unaffected.
