Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's crypto: qce component. An error in the devm_qce_register_algs function's error handling path causes the system to repeatedly attempt to unregister algorithms incorrectly when a registration fails. This improper handling of resources could lead to system instability or a denial of service.

Statement

A flaw of moderate severity was found in the Linux kernel's Qualcomm Crypto Engine (qce) driver (drivers/crypto/qce/core.c). In devm_qce_register_algs(), if ops->register_algs() fails, the error-handling path repeatedly calls the same ops->unregister_algs() from the failed registration instead of using the loop index to unregister only the previously registered algorithms. This improper release of resources is triggered locally and only affects availability: it can lead to system instability or a denial of service, with no impact on confidentiality or integrity. Red Hat rated this flaw Moderate (CVSS 3.1 score 5.5, AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) rather than the CVE.org score of 7.8 (Important), because the CVE.org vector includes high confidentiality and integrity impacts that this flaw does not actually provide. All currently assessed Red Hat Enterprise Linux (including kernel-rt) and Red Hat In-Vehicle OS kernel components are marked not affected, because the vulnerable code is not present in these shipped builds.
