Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A local user could trigger a kernel warning by enabling the mtier sample module before its address range parameters are properly initialized. This issue, caused by invalid address range parameters, could lead to system instability or a denial of service.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as a Moderate impact because exploitation requires local authenticated access and the resultant impact is limited to kernel instability or a localized denial of service. Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernels do not compile or package upstream sample modules, ensuring that the affected component is absent from production systems. Consequently, supported Red Hat products are not exposed to this flaw in default environments.
