Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ims-pcu driver. This vulnerability allows a malicious device to trigger an infinite loop by providing a specially crafted descriptor with a zero-length field during the parsing of CDC union descriptors. This can lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) condition, making the system unresponsive.
Statement
A moderate severity flaw was found in the Linux kernel ims-pcu driver. When parsing CDC union descriptors in ims_pcu_get_cdc_union_desc(), the driver iterates through the extra descriptor data without verifying that the bLength of each descriptor is at least 2. A malicious USB device connected to the system could supply a descriptor with bLength = 0, causing an infinite loop in the driver during parsing. This results in a denial of service, leaving the system unresponsive. The vulnerability affects only availability; there is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, and exploiting it requires connecting a specially crafted USB device. All Red Hat products in scope for this flaw, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 through 10 (kernel and kernel-rt) and Red Hat In-Vehicle OS kernels, are not affected because the vulnerable code is not present in the shipped kernels.
