Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's netfilter component. Under low-memory conditions, the nf_tables_offload module incorrectly triggers warnings for expected memory allocation failures during network packet filtering. This can lead to excessive logging of non-critical errors, potentially impacting system stability by obscuring genuine issues.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Low severity impact because it only produces a non-fatal kernel warning splat when memory allocation fails during flow rule offload rollback, causing no memory corruption or privilege escalation. Triggering this condition requires severe memory exhaustion during hardware-offloaded nftables transaction processing, which typically necessitates elevated network privileges or specific container namespace configurations. Under default Red Hat Enterprise Linux settings, the emitted warning does not halt the system unless panic-on-warn has been explicitly enabled, limiting the effect to kernel log noise.
