Description
A flaw was found in the ASUS Human Interface Device (HID) driver in the Linux kernel. This vulnerability occurs due to a missing check before using a function intended only for USB devices. A local attacker could exploit this by crafting a malicious HID device, leading to a kernel crash and a denial of service (DoS) on the system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having Moderate impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation is confined to a local denial of service and requires the capability to emulate or attach specialized input devices. Triggering this flaw generally demands privileged permissions to interact with user-space HID interfaces or access to physical ports, limiting the attack surface in standard enterprise environments. Furthermore, earlier supported releases including RHEL 8 and RHEL 9 lack the affected driver code and remain unaffected.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
