Description
A flaw was found in the XFS file system component of the Linux kernel. When a transaction commit fails in xfs_trans_roll(), the NOFS (No File System) context is not properly restored in the error handling path. This oversight can lead to a circular lock dependency between xfs_nondir_ilock_class and fs_reclaim, potentially causing a system deadlock and resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because an attacker requires local system access and must trigger an uncommon transaction failure path under memory pressure, limiting the consequence to a system deadlock rather than privilege escalation. Although XFS serves as the default storage filesystem in Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, inducing this deadlock requires specialized failure conditions during rolling transactions. Consequently, the flaw presents a local denial of service risk without directly jeopardizing data confidentiality or file system integrity.
CVSS score applicability
