Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's XFS filesystem. A local attacker could trigger a livelock condition during an online file system check (fsck) if an unlinked inode list contains a loop. This vulnerability could lead to a Denial of Service (DoS), making the system unresponsive.
Statement
This vulnerability is evaluated as having a Low severity impact because triggering the condition requires executing an online filesystem scrub on a specially corrupted storage volume, an action that typically demands administrative privileges. In default Red Hat Enterprise Linux installations, unprivileged users cannot mount arbitrary filesystems or invoke online XFS scrub routines. Consequently, the flaw presents minimal risk in standard environments and cannot be leveraged for privilege escalation or remote exploitation.
