Description
A flaw was found in the ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) USB audio driver in the Linux kernel. When a system resume operation fails for a USB audio device, the driver's error handling is incomplete. This can leave the audio card in an unusable state, blocking further control access and requiring a system reboot to restore functionality. This vulnerability can lead to a denial of service for the audio subsystem.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Low impact by Red Hat because it only affects environments with connected USB sound cards undergoing power management state transitions, requiring an underlying hardware or communication error during resume. Enterprise servers and headless deployments rarely attach external sound cards or perform system suspend and resume cycles. Furthermore, the failure mode is confined to an unresponsive sound subsystem and does not threaten host integrity, confidentiality, or facilitate privilege escalation.
