Description
A flaw was found in the ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) hda/tas2781 driver in the Linux kernel. This vulnerability occurs when an asynchronous firmware request callback attempts to operate on driver-private data that has already been deallocated or is in the process of being torn down during component unbinding. This can lead to memory corruption, potentially causing system instability or a denial of service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because exploitation requires local access and is restricted to systems utilizing specific Texas Instruments TAS2781 audio amplifier hardware. In standard Red Hat enterprise deployments and server environments, this sound hardware is rarely present or actively bound. A local user would need to race asynchronous firmware operations during driver unbinding to induce memory corruption or a denial of service, with no immediate compromise of confidentiality or data integrity.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
