Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's NTB (Non-Transparent Bridge) module. This vulnerability arises from the incorrect handling of Direct Memory Access (DMA) addresses during memory deallocation. The DMA API requires that the dma_free_attrs function receives the exact dma_handle originally provided by the allocation function. Modifying this handle before deallocation can lead to memory corruption, potentially causing system instability or a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because Non-Transparent Bridge (NTB) hardware is specialized interconnect equipment not present or configured in typical enterprise installations. A local attacker requires access to a system with an active NTB transport configuration, significantly restricting exposure. Consequently, the potential for local denial of service or instability is confined to environments utilizing dedicated PCIe bridge configurations.
