Description
A flaw was found in the drm/xe component of the Linux kernel. This vulnerability involves incorrect memory allocation paths for Display Page Tables (DPTs), which are used by the graphics processing unit. Under certain conditions, this could lead to the exhaustion of a specific memory region, potentially causing the system to experience random hangs or display a black screen. This issue results in a Denial of Service (DoS), making the system temporarily unavailable.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Low impact because exploitation requires local access on systems equipped with supported Intel graphics hardware and only causes a denial of service without compromising data integrity or confidentiality. In typical enterprise environments, Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers operate headless or utilize alternative display adapters, leaving the Intel Xe driver unexercised. Systems actively using affected graphics hardware may experience display unresponsiveness or system lockups under load due to improper handling of display page table memory.
