Description
A flaw was found in .NET. Due to inefficient algorithmic complexity, an unauthorized remote attacker can send specially crafted requests over the network to cause excessive resource consumption. This issue can result in a Denial of Service (DoS), rendering the affected application unresponsive to legitimate users.
Statement
A flaw was found in .NET caused by inefficient algorithmic complexity. An unauthenticated remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted network requests to an application running on an affected .NET runtime or framework component. Processing these requests triggers excessive CPU or memory resource consumption, leading to severe performance degradation or complete process unresponsiveness, resulting in a denial of service for legitimate users without compromising data integrity or confidentiality.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Deploy reverse-proxy rate limiting and request timeout thresholds to drop abnormally slow or complex incoming network requests before they reach the backend .NET service. Enforce CPU and memory cgroup limits on application containers to isolate resource exhaustion to the impacted service.
