Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's IPv6 networking subsystem. A race condition can occur during IPv6 multipath route rebalancing, where a concurrent update can lead to a divide-by-zero error. This vulnerability can cause the kernel to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected system.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Low security impact because triggering the condition requires local administrative privileges to configure multipath routing and modify network link states concurrently. In typical Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments, unprivileged users lack the network capabilities required to initiate route rebalancing, preventing remote exploitation. Furthermore, this race condition only occurs under specific multipath routing environments experiencing rapid link-state updates, limiting the likelihood of accidental denial of service.
