Description
A flaw was found in the drm/pagemap component of the Linux kernel. This vulnerability involves a 'use-after-free' error, a type of memory corruption, that occurs when the system attempts to access memory after it has been released. This could allow a local attacker to cause the system to crash, leading to a denial of service. In some scenarios, it might also be possible for an attacker to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because exploitation requires local access to trigger Direct Rendering Manager device-to-RAM memory migration paths, primarily resulting in a denial of service via a kernel crash. The underlying condition occurs within GPU memory management folio allocation error-handling routines, limiting the blast radius to local system instability. Enterprise environments that restrict untrusted local user access or do not utilize workloads requiring DRM device pagemap migration face minimal operational risk.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
