Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's AMD GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) driver. When the Multimedia Engine Scheduler (MES) ring stops responding and a system reset is triggered, the MES ring fences are not properly completed. This can lead to the system becoming unresponsive after resuming from the reset, requiring a hard reboot to restore functionality. This vulnerability can result in a denial of service for a local user.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having Low impact because it requires local access, specific AMD graphics hardware, and a pre-existing device timeout to trigger the unrecoverable hang. Most enterprise server deployments operate headless or do not utilize affected graphics cards, which further reduces broad operational exposure. On systems where the hardware is actively driven, the risk is confined strictly to a localized denial of service without compromising system confidentiality or integrity.
