Description
A flaw was found in the qla2xxx SCSI driver in the Linux kernel. This vulnerability occurs due to a double-read operation on a request queue map entry during error handling. If the entry is cleared between these two reads, it can lead to a null pointer dereference, potentially causing a system crash and resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation is limited to a local denial of service, requiring access to systems equipped with specific QLogic Fibre Channel hardware. The flaw can only be triggered under tight race conditions during queue teardown while handling error entries, potentially crashing the kernel. Typical deployments lacking this specialized storage hardware or without the module loaded remain unaffected, and the issue does not affect data confidentiality or system integrity.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
