Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. The dt_idle_pd_free() function in the cpuidle subsystem attempts to free a memory region using an incorrect pointer, which is not the start of the original allocation. This memory corruption vulnerability can lead to a system crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity because it requires local access and primarily results in a denial of service via a kernel panic. In Red Hat environments, the issue resides in the kernel's Device Tree CPU idle power domain subsystem, where releasing an invalid pointer during memory deallocation causes corruption. The risk is limited to platforms configured with Device Tree power domains and cannot be triggered remotely.
CVSS score applicability
