Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A null pointer dereference can occur in the usb_put_function_instance() function within the USB gadget subsystem. This issue arises because a file descriptor (fd) is not allocated before being dereferenced in an error path, which can lead to a system crash. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Low severity because triggering the issue requires local privileges to configure USB gadget devices, a subsystem that is not active or utilized in standard enterprise deployments. In Red Hat Enterprise Linux, USB gadget drivers such as UVC are intended for specialized embedded or device-mode hardware and are not exposed during normal server operations. Exploitation is further constrained to specific failure handling paths during instance allocation, restricting the maximum impact to a local system crash.
