Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's USB MDC800 driver. The driver uses kmalloc() instead of kzalloc() for buffer allocation, which can leave portions of the allocated memory uninitialized. If a shorter message is received, an attacker could potentially read sensitive information from the kernel stack, leading to information disclosure.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Low impact because exploitation requires physical access or attachment of a specialized or emulated Mustek MDC800 USB device to the system. In standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux enterprise deployments, this legacy camera driver is not utilized, significantly minimizing practical exposure. Furthermore, the flaw only exposes uninitialized kernel memory rather than permitting code execution or privilege escalation.
