Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's IOMMU/DMA subsystem. The non-blocking, non-coherent allocation path did not directly check the result of dma_alloc_from_pool() for allocation failures. This oversight could lead to the use of unallocated memory for IOMMU mapping, potentially causing memory corruption or system instability.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as Moderate because exploitation requires local access and specific conditions where atomic memory pools are exhausted during non-blocking DMA operations. An unprivileged or local user cannot directly trigger this condition without generating substantial system memory pressure or interacting with hardware drivers utilizing non-coherent DMA mappings. The primary risk is a local denial of service resulting in a kernel panic or system crash rather than arbitrary code execution.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
