Description
A flaw was found in the ath12k Wi-Fi driver within the Linux kernel. This vulnerability occurs because the firmware buffer is read without first verifying that it contains enough data to hold a header. An attacker could potentially exploit this to cause a buffer overread, which may lead to information disclosure or a denial of service.
Statement
Red Hat Product Security rates this vulnerability as Moderate because exploitation requires local access and is constrained to systems equipped with specific Qualcomm wireless hardware, limiting the blast radius primarily to a local denial of service. In standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux and container host environments, Wi-Fi drivers are rarely utilized and the driver is not active unless supported physical devices are present. Consequently, enterprise server deployments and virtualized systems without Qualcomm wireless adapters remain unaffected in practice.
CVSS score applicability
The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
