Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's iommu/amd component, specifically within the devid_write debugfs function. When the for_each_pci_segment() loop fails to find a matching segment, a pointer can reference an invalid memory location. Accessing this invalid memory can lead to undefined behavior, potentially causing system instability or a denial of service.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having a Low severity for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation requires local administrative access to write to debugfs entries on systems utilizing AMD IOMMU hardware. In default Red Hat configurations, the debugfs filesystem is restricted to root, limiting the exposure to unprivileged users. An attacker would already need elevated privileges to trigger the invalid pointer dereference and cause a kernel denial of service.
