Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's AMD display (DM) I2C adapter. A race condition exists where the DM I2C adapters remain visible to userspace while the DM teardown is in progress. A local attacker could exploit this by initiating a concurrent i2c-dev transfer, causing a NULL pointer dereference. This could lead to a system crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Low severity impact because exploitation requires local system access and precise timing during device teardown on systems equipped with AMD display hardware. The flaw results in a kernel NULL pointer dereference that causes an operating system crash, impacting system availability without threatening confidentiality or data integrity. Additionally, triggering driver teardown or device removal generally requires administrative privileges or physical device disconnection, minimizing the attack surface in standard enterprise environments.
